A. CASELLA Serenade for Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Violin and Cello, Op. 46
C. GOUNOD Petite Symphonie for Winds
Orquestra Clássica do Sul
The FIMA – Festival Internacional de Música do Algarve presents “Chamber Serenades and Symphonies”, interpreted by Orquestra Clássica do Sul’s chamber music groups.
Casella was a composer clearly influenced by a post-romantic aesthetics, in line with R. Strauss and Mahler, to which the composer added some French influence. The “Serenade For Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Violin and Cello, Op. 46” written by Casella is the first proposal for this concert, which then further includes Gounod’s music. In this Gounod’s work we find an intermediate way between chamber music and almost a small orchestra, what makes it to be designated as “Petite Symphonie” for woodwind instruments. Although characterized by a classic formal structure, the piece is also marked by a romantic language.
